At Temasek Independent School, we believe that learning should be an active pursuit. Students do not simply receive information; they explore, question, create, communicate, solve problems and learn to make connections.

Our Primary programme develops both academic understanding and the skills students need for learning and for life. These include communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, global citizenship, independence and character.

Temasek uses the Pearson Edexcel iPrimary programme to provide an internationally benchmarked framework for learning and assessment. International standards are combined with meaningful learning experiences, strong character development and an understanding of the Indonesian context.

Our goal is to develop students who can look confidently towards the wider world while remaining firmly rooted in who they are.

Learning at Temasek extends beyond textbooks and classroom instruction. Students are encouraged to:

Temasek uses the Pearson Edexcel International iPrimary programme as an important part of its academic framework.

The programme provides an internationally benchmarked approach to curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment. Students develop strong subject knowledge and understanding while also learning how to apply what they know in different contexts.

Pearson provides curriculum guidance, schemes of work, teaching resources and assessment materials. Temasek teachers use these resources to plan learning that is appropriate to the needs, abilities and development of their students.

Students’ progress is monitored through a combination of classroom assessment, school-based assessment and Pearson assessment where applicable.

P1 Induction Programme

Helping children make a confident transition into Primary School

The transition from Kindergarten or Preschool to Primary School is an important step in a child’s learning journey. Temasek’s P1 Induction Programme is designed to help students become familiar with the routines, expectations and responsibilities of primary school life.

In Primary 1, students begin learning with several subject teachers and experience a more structured school day. The induction programme introduces these changes gradually, helping children understand how the school works and what is expected of them.

Students learn to:

● follow classroom routines and expectations
● communicate confidently with different teachers
● organise themselves and take care of their belongings
● use appropriate classroom language
● manage personal care and daily school routines
● take responsibility for simple tasks
● interact positively with classmates
● understand the values and behaviours expected within the Temasek community

The aim is for every P1 student to feel secure, confident and ready to participate fully in school life and learning.

English Support Programme (ESP)

Building confidence in spoken English

The ESP provides additional support for P1 students as they develop the English needed to participate confidently in school.

Students attend a dedicated 30-minute English support session each school day for six months. Activities may include:

• phonics
• classroom language
• everyday vocabulary
• listening and speaking
• pronunciation
• role play
• simple conversations
• language used across different school situations

The programme is designed to help students become increasingly comfortable using English for both learning and communication.

Integrated Learning Programme (ILP)

Connecting learning with the real world

The Integrated Learning Programme (ILP) gives students opportunities to explore meaningful topics through observation, inquiry, research, discussion and practical activities.

Rather than learning every subject in isolation, students are encouraged to make connections across areas such as Science, Social Studies and Global Citizenship. They may investigate a topic, issue or place and draw on knowledge and skills from different subjects to develop a deeper understanding.

Through ILP, students learn to:

● ask relevant questions
● gather and organise information
● conduct simple research
● collaborate with others
● solve problems
● develop projects
● communicate their ideas and findings

ILP helps students see that learning is connected. It enables them to use what they learn in school to understand issues, places and experiences in the world around them.

Sweet Words, Sweet Action

Character expressed through everyday behaviour

Academic learning is only one part of a child’s education. Sweet Words, Sweet Action develops students’ understanding of ethics, respect and responsible behaviour.

Students learn how their words and actions affect other people through everyday practices such as:

• greeting others appropriately
• listening when someone is speaking
• communicating respectfully
• showing consideration for others
• taking responsibility for their behaviour
• demonstrating good manners in different situations

The programme helps students understand that character is demonstrated through the choices they make every day.

Learning also takes place beyond the classroom. Temasek offers a range of Extracurricular Activities that allow students to discover interests, develop talents, stay active and build friendships outside their regular academic lessons.

Students can choose from:

• Modern Dance

• Futsal

• STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Offerings may change from year to year depending on student interest, availability and programme development.

Assessment helps teachers understand what students know, what they can do and what they need to learn next. At Temasek, assessment is used not only to measure achievement but also to support learning and guide improvement

Classroom and School-Based Assessment

Teachers regularly gather evidence of student learning through activities such as classwork, homework, quizzes, projects, presentations, practical activities, discussions and written assessments. Teachers use this information to identify students’ strengths, learning needs and next steps.

Pearson Assessments

Pearson iPrimary provides a structured assessment framework that allows student achievement to be considered against international expectations. Depending on the stage of the programme, students may undertake internally assessed progress assessments and externally assessed achievement assessments.
These assessments help the school monitor student progress, identify areas requiring further support, evaluate achievement against international benchmarks, and prepare students for the expectations of the next stage of their education.

Indonesian National Assessment

As a school operating within Indonesia, Temasek also participates in national assessment requirements established by the Indonesian government, including applicable national programmes such as ANBK and/or TKA in accordance with current government regulations. These assessments complement the school’s internal and international assessment programme.

Temasek believes parents should always have a clear picture of their child’s progress. Throughout the academic year, this includes:

• Report Cards / Progress Reports — issued 4 times per academic year
• Parent-Teacher Conferences — held every term
• Town Hall Meetings — held twice a year, at the end of each semester

Good programmes require good teachers. Temasek teachers come from a range of respected universities in Indonesia, including Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Universitas Kristen Maranatha.

Our teaching team includes:

Teachers participate regularly in professional development related to curriculum, subject knowledge, teaching methodology and the Temasek approach to learning.

Entry Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of age by June of the registration year

Admissions Procedure

For new students, the entrance test will be scheduled only after registration has been completed and the registration fee has been paid.

The admissions procedure is as follows:

• 1. Complete the required registration documentation, including the registration form
• 2. Take the entrance test
• 3. Interview with the school administrator
• 4. The school will issue an acceptance letter

• 2 recent color photos, size 4×6 cm
• 2 copies of the candidate’s birth certificate
• 1 copy of the candidate’s report card from Grade 1 to the most recent grade, legalized by the school principal
• 1 copy of the candidate’s most recent report card, legalized by the school principal (for transfer students)
• 1 copy of Parent/Guardian ID card (KTP)
• 1 copy of Family Card (Kartu Keluarga), including the candidate’s name

For International Students

• 1 copy of parent/guardian’s and candidate’s passport

What curriculum does TIS Primary follow?

TIS follows a blended curriculum combining the Pearson Edexcel iPrimary programme and Kurikulum Merdeka, so students meet both international and Indonesian national standards

What is the medium of instruction?

All subjects are taught in English, except for Tematik (Bahasa Indonesia, Civics, and Social Studies), which is taught in Bahasa Indonesia.

What is the minimum age for enrollment?

Students must be at least 6 years old by June of the registration year.

Does my child need to take a test to enroll?

Yes. After registering and paying the registration fee, an entrance test will be scheduled, followed by an interview with the school administrator.

What documents do I need to prepare for registration?

Documents include 2 recent 4×6 cm color photos, 2 copies of the birth certificate, a legalized copy of the candidate’s report card(s), a copy of the Parent/Guardian ID card, and a copy of the Family Card (Kartu Keluarga), along with a registration fee of Rp 500,000. International students also need copies of passports and KITAS for parent/guardian and candidate.

How will my child be supported if their English isn’t strong yet?

P1 students join the English Support Programme (ESP) — a dedicated 30-minute daily session for 6 months focused on phonics, classroom language, and speaking confidence.

How is my child’s progress reported?

Parents receive report cards 4 times a year, plus a Parent-Teacher Conference every term and a Town Hall Meeting at the end of each semester.

What extracurricular activities are offered?

Options include Modern Dance, Basketball, Futsal, Taekwondo, Art, and STEM, alternating weekly with Starburst sessions. Offerings may change yearly based on student interest.

What support is available for my child’s wellbeing?

TIS offers free consultation with the school counselor and access to psychological support when needed..
